MTV: Not Music Television

It’s a sad day, ladies and gentlemen. MTV no longer stands for Music Television. Not that we didn’t already know this. Over the years, MTV has drifted far, far from its original all-music premise and now devotes the majority of its air time to mostly ridiculous and worthless reality shows. But now the station’s execs are finally realizing this, and it is official; the logo has followed suit. It has been changed from the original version that we grew up on, back when MTV actually played music videos (gasp!),

to this updated version, which is similar, just conveniently shed of the underlying “Music Television” tagline.

Although this changes very little for me, as I haven’t watched MTV in years, it still feels like a slap in my generation’s face. Alas, I suppose it was time. Reality shows killed the video star.
